About our Impact

Second-hand is better for the climate, your wardrobe and your wallet.

At SellNBuy , impact is part of our DNA.

We believe in the power of our community to change fashion consumption, creating a system that is more respectful of people and the planet and making circular fashion more desirable and accessible to all.

Buying and selling on SellNBuy helps extend the life of clothing, making it easier for our community to extend the life of their clothes and find alternatives to buying new. It also helps empower a diverse community of sellers and small businesses, many of whom recycle, restyle, or design their own items.

Fashion is the most polluting industry after oil. That's a lot of dirt behind our backs.

The problem is first and foremost overconsumption: it’s a fact, we overconsume, not to mention we waste! Just look in our wardrobes and our habits. We buy out of desire to follow fashion without even taking stock of what we already have, we absolve ourselves of guilt by throwing away or donating our old surplus.

Eventually

More than 120 billion items of clothing are produced and delivered every year, and several million tons of clothing and other textiles are thrown into our landfills.

50 or even 70% of our wardrobe would simply not be worn and would remain in the closet.

Each item contributes 20 times its weight to greenhouse gases.

Greenhouse gas concentrations have reached record levels, with carbon dioxide increasing by 2.4 parts per million (ppm) compared to the previous year, and methane increasing by several parts per billion (ppb) over the same period. These figures appear to have played a major role in the increased heat.

The severity of the problem is recognized internationally, as in 2018, the WHO ranked Dakar as the “second most polluted city in the world.” It thus displays an average level of fine particles of 146 micrograms per cubic meter, seven times higher than the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

Our emissions reduction plan

SellNBuy is also committed to minimizing the impact of its operations on climate change. We’ve developed an action plan to reduce emissions in line with climate science recommendations. Emissions from deliveries account for 98% of our carbon footprint. Therefore, we must focus on our logistics operations, including environmentally responsible packaging of items.
